SIGHTSEEING

Kokura Castle

From the nearest station to our guesthouse, Nishijin Station, you can take the subway to Hakata Station. From there, board the Kyushu Shinkansen and you'll arrive at Kokura Station in about 16 minutes. It's about a 20-minute walk from Kokura Station to reach the symbol of Kokura, Kokura Castle. Kokura Castle was built by the Mori clan, who ruled over the Chugoku region during the Warring States period and was later completed by Hosokawa Tadaoki. After Tadaoki was transferred to Kumamoto following the Battle of Sekigahara, the Ogasawara clan, relatives of the Hosokawa clan, came to govern the town of Kokura. One distinctive feature of Kokura Castle is its "Karazuki" style main tower, where there is no roof between the 4th and 5th floors, with the 5th floor being larger than the 4th floor, and the stone walls are constructed using "nozura-zumi" method, without cut stones.
